This privacy policy sets out how the National Trading Standards Scams Team uses and protects any information that you give the National Trading Standards Scams Team when you use the Friends Against Scams website.

What we do with the information we gather

We require this information to understand your needs and provide you with a better service, and in particular for the following reasons:

  • Internal record keeping.
  • We may use the information to improve our products and services.
  • We may periodically send promotional and general Friends Against Scams information emails about the initiative using the email address which you have provided. You can unsubscribe at any time.
  • For contact to fulfill the various Friends Against Scams supporting roles.

To process your personal data, we will explain to you what we are asking you to agree to and why. If we have consent to use your personal data, you have the right to remove it at any time. If you want to remove your consent, please contact us at the following email address FriendsAgainstScams@surreycc.gov.uk and we will deal with your request.

Where we ask you for personal information through an online form, this information will only be used for the purpose indicated and it will be held in a secure manner.

It will not be used for any other purpose without your permission and will be kept in line with our data retention policy. If you withdraw your consent your personal details will be removed from the system but your name will be on file depending on the project up to a maximum of the current year plus six, where it will then be anonymised. If you do not withdraw your consent your details will remain on file for the juration of the project. If you are concerned about providing your personal information online please email us at friendsagainstscams@surreycc.gov.uk and we will arrange alternative means for you to provide this information.

Your information will not be shared with any external bodies, except in certain circumstances your local trading standards service, if this is applicable to the role you have consented to. Your information will not be subject to any automated decision making. Your personal data will not be processed outside of the UK and EU.

Email

Email is not a secure method of communication because the text may be intercepted by third parties. Please do not include any sensitive or private information in your email correspondence with us.

Use of IP addresses

Every computer has its own individual IP address, identifying it in the same way as a telephone number identifies your phone line.
