Practical Tips - Installing a Call Blocker
The easiest way to protect yourself or someone you know from scam phone calls is to install a call blocker. A call blocker is a device that attaches to a telephone and is able to block certain types of calls. Call blocker units fall into two categories; white list blockers and block list blockers.
White list blockers work by only allowing through calls from numbers that have been programmed in by the user. If a call comes through from a number the user has authorised to call them then the users phone will ring as normal, any numbers that the user has not approved will be intercepted by the unit and not put through to the user.
Block list blockers work by blocking any calls from numbers that the user has identified as an unwanted caller, as criminals frequently change the numbers that they call from the user needs to constantly update their blocked numbers list.
As an alternative, many telephone providers now make phones with call blocking technology built in.
Using a separate call blocking unit means that there is no need to replace the users phone or for them to learn how to use a new handset so these may be suitable for older people.
