Doorstep scam

The owner of a roofing company from Fetcham has been jailed for two-and-a-half years for charging an elderly couple £7,200 after one of his workers fell through their roof. John Thompson, 43, who owns Thompson Roofing and Guttering, sent one of his labourers up onto the couple’s roof without putting scaffolding in place, leading to the man falling into their loft, Surrey County Council said. more

Telephone Scam

Police are urging members of the public to stay alert following reports of a Flintshire resident being scammed out of £15,000.

The victim was contacted by phone by a person purporting to be working for BT.
They told the victim that his software had been compromised and convinced him to turn on his computer to allow them to access it remotely

A warning has been issued for Netflix users after a new scam email has been doing the rounds. Users are being urged to be vigilant of the phishing email, which hit inboxes recently.  The scam email tells customers their account has been suspended and says they need to update their account details, including billing information. more

Criminals that impersonated YouTube stars to steal their fans' money have claimed 70,000 victims in less than a month, new research has found. 

The followers of popular YouTubers including Philip DeFranco, James Charles and Jeffree Star were sent private messages through the online video site, asking them to click on a fraudulent link to redeem a prize. more

Postal scam

Local residents are being urged to be vigilant after criminals attempted to con a man out of £9,000. 
Detailing the incident on the Scam Wise Northern Ireland Facebook page, a spokesperson for NI Direct said: "A man from the Newtownabbey area got a letter claiming to be from an international postcode lottery, saying that he had won £900,000. more
