The owner of a roofing company from Fetcham has been jailed for two-and-a-half years for charging an elderly couple £7,200 after one of his workers fell through their roof. John Thompson, 43, who owns Thompson Roofing and Guttering, sent one of his labourers up onto the couple’s roof without putting scaffolding in place, leading to the man falling into their loft, Surrey County Council said. more

Police are urging members of the public to stay alert following reports of a Flintshire resident being scammed out of £15,000.

The victim was contacted by phone by a person purporting to be working for BT.
